Art in Climate Activism Workshop Series
CALL FOR WORKSHOPS
The Art in Climate Activism Workshop Series is an opportunity for Maine youth ages 15-30 to share their forms of art and how they use it as part of their climate activism with other youth across the state.
Workshop proposals should include:
- interactive elements
- plans that are accessible to people joining remotely or in-person
- a connection between art and climate activism
This year, we are selecting two presenters to facilitate two 1- 1.5 hour workshops - one in late February and one in late March. Our hope is that each presenter would be able to present in-person from our MEEA office in Portland, Maine with support from MEEA staff to have it be a hybrid virtual event on Zoom as well. Exact dates will be selected once we have selected presenters.
We’ve hosted workshops in the past about zinemaking, poetry, songwriting, and nature journaling and are excited to see what types of artistic practices you want to share with your community!
If you have any questions, please email changemakers@meeassociation.org. Proposals are due January 23 at 11:59pm EST.

The Maine Environmental Changemakers youth-led, intergenerational network is a program of the Maine Environmental Education Association that connects young Mainers (ages 15-30) from diverse backgrounds who are passionate about the environment with peer mentors and established professional mentors in the sector. Changemakers provides the training and resources needed to support the environmental actions that participants organize in their communities. The Changemakers program commits to challenging traditional models of leadership, shifting power, increasing innovation through dialogue, and crossing age and ability boundaries to develop a more just, inclusive, and equitable environmental sector.
Changemakers is powerful today because of the insight, innovation, and courage embodied in its youth-led design. Born from a single event in 2016, the project has grown to a vibrant network where we provide training, community events, resource sharing, a paid fellowship program, a paid residency, civic engagement training, and support for youth-led community action projects.
We believe that anyone can be an environmental Changemaker and everyone has a role to play in this work of building more resilient and equitable Maine communities. We invite people to join the work and encourage all participants to listen with an open heart to enter into conversations that may challenge their traditional practice.
