BC1 Phytoplankton Rule!
Phytoplankton are fascinating and beautiful in their own right, but also profoundly connected to some of the most important environmental issues facing the Earth today - in short, phytoplankton rule! This 3 hour workshop will include phytoplankton collection in the field, followed by training in identification of some common phytoplankton types using microscopes and keys. A PowerPoint presentation will describe the role of phytoplankton in the marine environment, focusing on red tides and harmful algal blooms. Workshop participants will come away with an appreciation for the significant role phytoplankton play in the marine environment.
BC2 The Art of Questioning: Using Natural Mysteries to Reclaim Ancient Brain Patterns
Based on deep-rooted educational principles exhibited in native cultures worldwide, as well as current brain research, this 3 hour field workshop will start as a Wildlife Track and Sign Interpretation workshop. Afterwards, in a dialogue session, we'll unveil the rich layers of cultural elements found in nature that educators can design into environmental education experiences. (Limit 25)
